Dr. Cortland P. Cheney, DVM
Dr. Cortland "Cory" Cheney began his career in southern Alamance County after graduating from the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Before veterinary school, he received his Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Kenyon College, while serving as a volunteer fireman and emergency medical technician. In October 2015, he had the opportunity to continue in Dr. Nancy Hesters footsteps, assuming ownership of Phoenix Animal Hospital. Dr. Cheney would like to thank the community, clients, and staff for their continued support and he hopes to meet everyone soon.
Dr. Cheney grew up in the small farming community of Coshocton, Ohio. His interests include backpacking, fishing, and carpentry. When not in the hospital, he can usually be found in the woods or on the water.

Our senior veterinary assistant is always ready to lend a helping hand. Corrie is great with all of our boarding animals as well as keeping the appointment schedule on time by loading exam rooms when the days are crazy! Corrie has three dogs and two cats. Corrie not only cares for pets, she also is a wonderful people person and is an aspiring Law Enforcement officer.
With 25 years of experience, Susan is our lead Customer Service Representative and our "safety net." Although primarily in reception, she is often seen assisting the doctor or the technicians. "Susan, your needed in treatment!" is a familiar call. Her love for animals is evident in how she cares for her Dachshund "Muffinator" and German Shepherd "Jerry Lee."
Chelsey is the third, and a key member of the Veterinary Assistant team. She keeps a winning smile on her face while somehow balancing the demands of the job and working on an Education degree at UNC Greensboro. She will make a great teacher someday, but until then, we are thankful to have her here.
Josh W. is currently a Veterinary Assistant here at Phoenix and stays busy as a groomer when he isn't here. Josh is always dependable for early morning kennel help, bathing, and assisting the technicians with larger pets. You will know if he is at work because you can't miss his lifted Chevy in the parking lot! Josh has three dogs and four cats, but he has a huge heart for animals and would take in any pet if he could!
Terrie comes to the hospital from Glen Raven with 10 years of clinical experience and is a trained phlebotomist. Terrie is an avid reader, enjoys and collects movies, and is proud of the fact that all of her four pets are rescues.
Combining 20 years of experience, with a bubbly personality, Ashley is a great addition to the Customer Service Representative team. Her wonderful family along with her cat, Ozzy, and dog Shotzee, are all nestled away on a 10 acre homestead that keeps her busy when not at the practice. Ashley also helps a lot at "the barn" where her youngest daughter is an aspiring equestrian.
